Freshfields’ Sarah Falk becomes High Court Judge
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s Sarah Falk will be appointed as a High Court Judge in the Chancery Division for England and Wales on October 1. She will be known as The Honourable Mrs Justice Falk. She is one of only three solicitors to have been appointed directly to the High Court bench from private practice, and the first woman to do so.
Sarah qualified in 1986 and became a partner at Freshfields in 1994. During the past 30 years, she has advised on all aspects of corporate tax strategy and some of the highest-profile corporate finance transactions (including public and private M&A, demergers, IPOs and joint ventures) and restructurings in the market. She retired from the partnership in April 2013, though remained with the firm working as a Consultant. She was appointed as a Fee-paid Deputy Judge of the Upper Tribunal, Tax and Chancery Chamber in 2015.

Sarah will take up appointment on 1 October 2018 consequential to the elevation of Lady Justice Asplin to the Court of Appeal.
